Well good morning Bloggers, I was lucky enough to catch Amelia Gregory's call out last night on twitter for illustrators, you can follow her tweets here AmeliaGregory . The Article was, fashion scouts 'ones to watch' this looks at new up and coming fashion designers. I was asked to illustrate the fashion designer Sara Bro-Jorgensen, I hadn't seen her work before but i'd say the AW11 collection has a grunge feel with a basic palate of black white and lots of texture. One outfit that really stood out to me was a top printed with a bow tie & tuxedo jacket & tuxedo style trousers with the satin trim. A really cutesy black knitted hood, which reminded me of a baby bonnet.

What beautiful illustrations, these have been helping inspire me for a book i'm illustrating for my friend http://the-naughty-elk.blogspot.com/ who's written a short story. The dead line is 30 days from now & i think there will be about that many illustrations needed, So basically one a day. This is the first book i will have illustrated from start to finish i am quite excited about it. There will be dreamy and whimsical illustrations, telling a sweet & melancholy story of friendship, loss and happy memories. I'll keep you as updated as possbile on its progress and maybe a few little visual snippets about how it develops :-)

Why are some people more productive at night?

Maybe its solitude? or the fact you know your more productive at night so stay awake to get on with work. Perhaps its because its quiet & working without loud noises is a lot easier. Could it be that all the other chores of the day are out of the way and focusing 100% on something is better than multitasking.

Who knows but i am always happiest with my late night work

Last week 28th Jan, i was fortunate enough to attend the official launch of ACOFI (amelias compendium of fashion illustration)

The event was held at 123 Bethnal green road london, We were welcomed by the lovely ladies from Forward PR http://www.forwardpr.com/ at the door and overwhelmed with bountiful tunes supplied by delighful 6dayriot and the stylish gals from the Pipettes. A delicious Cake was on display, ready for cutting/scoffing & crafted by the skillful Lili Vanilli. Amelia the lady of the moment was there rushing around seeing everybody was having a good time & making sure the night went with a stupendous bang (which it really did). A colourful & creative night was had by all, here's my night in pictures....

The fast paced LFW is going on right now and its hard enuf to keep up with all the new shows and collections even with the likes of twitter and blog updates. Let alone if you actaully have an invite to one of the shows, which seem to flash by so quickly when your furiously making notes/taking photos or trying to illustrate a collection from the front row. Amelia magazine are keeping on top of it though, in fashionable style with Amelia gregory updating via twitter on a regular basis and i'm pretty hooked.

My awesome friend lulu, is also a designer/illustrator...she lives in LA i dont get to see her half as much as i would like. I think i may have mentioned before we studied together at Central st.Martins uni where we met (graduated 2006). We also lived together for two years in the east end in shoreditch, it was a pretty wild and exciting time in my life.

I've been working on this all week on and off in between temping at my old job doing holiday cover, I've drawn inspiration from my own drawings and a bunch of other illustrations/photographs I've seen in magazines and stuff from Private view. This image is an A3 drawings i used 3 different graphic pens and i bloody love them - dunno why i haven't thought to use different sized pens on the same piece of work before. Am gonna try to do more of this in the future. peace out.

Here is another A4 ink illustration i've spent the morning drawing, I used photocopier ice white paper and Staedtler permanent fine line pens. These are my standard medium, see nothing fancy i like to keep is simple, I am thinking of adding some colour, but not sure if i should use photoshop or watercolour. Will wait it out i think until i decide. Been listening a lot to The xx lately that my sound track to work to at the moment, still not tired of it.

I've been working a lot with the idea of patterns and shapes recently, i love the idea of repetition...Drawing swirls and dot and squiggles is really therapeutic. These Drawing are only A4 i'd like to start working on some larger pieces but i have the fear from a large empty white page. Filling a smaller A4 one is a lot easier for me. Plus i am impatient, a bad thing for an illustrator to be. Well a bad thing really for anyone to be, i need to learn to spend more time on my work.
